Project activities in the countries

Air quality
The objective of this activity is to increase the use and public accessibility of air quality measurement data in the ENI Eastern Partnership countries. A country visit to Armenia delivered training to national experts in the RAVEN+ software.

Biodiversity
The ENI SEIS II East project provided technical expertise and financial support to the national authorities, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and independent scientific experts from Armenia, Azebaijan and Georgia. Together with the Council of Europe and the European Topic Centre on Biological Diversity, they assessed proposals for the conservation of bird species.

Communication and Visibility
At the request of the national focal point, the EEA delivered a communication seminar aimed to develop communication capacity for the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources in Azerbaijan.

Corine Land Cover
The EEA and the European Topic Centre for Urban, Land and Soil Systems continue to support the implementation of pilot Corine Land Cover projects. Three missions took place, two to Azerbaijan, including a field trip to Absheron Peninsula, and a training mission to Ukraine.

Open data
Three national round tables in Armenia, Azerbaijan and Ukraine  developed roadmaps to modernise environmental information systems and raise the profile of environmental information in national open data and e-government processes.

Water
The ENI SEIS II East project continues to support the development of the infrastructure for data and information exchange and sharing among the national water agencies in Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia. A water information system is being developed in Georgia by replicating the concept of the Water Information System for Europe. Similarly, eco-portals are being developed in Armenia and in Azerbaijan, including a special focus on water data and information sharing to support knowledge-based policy implementation in sustainable water resources management.

The project has also delivered a set of water indicators addressing various issues of water availability and water quality as a model of how to use the available data and information. This is the culmination of a 2-year collaborative effort between the national water experts from the six partnership countries, the EEA and the European Topic Centre on Inland, Coastal and Marine Waters. The indicators are published on the project web site.
