Dear colleagues, partners and friends

This is the last issue of the ENI SEIS II East Newsletter, which marks the end of a long journey. During the past four and a half years we have had so many activities, events and experiences and adopted so many good practices under the umbrella of SEIS that the system is now strongly embedded and has found a prominent place in various national and regional partnerships and plans.

Final project event

The final event of the ENI SEIS II East project marked the end of our four-year journey on implementing the SEIS principles in the Eastern Partnership region. We have many success stories that we can share and are grateful for the efforts of all the experts who contributed to this journey.

Latest project deliverables

 

Access to environmental information component    

The purpose of this ENI SEIS II project component is to assess the status of e-government and open data readiness in the environmental field in the ENI East countries.
EEA intervention at UNECE | National maturity reports

Air quality component

The objective of this activity was to increase the use and public accessibility of air quality measurement data in the ENI Eastern Partnership countries.
Air quality country briefings in English and Russian.

Biodiversity component

The objective of this activity was to improve the capacity of the countries to report data on species and habitats under Resolution No. 4 (1996) and Resolution No. 6 (1998) of the Bern Convention. 

Biodiversity briefing in English and Russian.

The activity also aimed to improve the capacity of the countries to report data on species and habitats to the EEA’s Central Data Repository.

Corine Land Cover component

The focus of this activity was on land cover mapping and facilitating the access to, and use of, some spatial data required for SEIS implementation at national level. See the Digital package

The results/deliverables of the Corine Land Cover component are publicly available on the Copernicus website

Environmental indicators and assessments component

This project component addressed the challenge of organising the vast array of environmental statistics, data and information necessary for regular environmental assessments and reporting, based on the SEIS principles and practices.

Status of online availability of environmental assessment reports

State of the environment reports component 

This component supported the regular process of reporting on the environment in the Eastern Partnership countries in accordance with international standards, incorporating EEA tools and Eionet best practices to produce environmental assessment reports.

System of Environmental Economic Accounting

This component aimed to build capacity to produce environmental indicators and indicator-based assessments on the efficiency of natural capital and its depletion.

Explore th knowledge repository, assessments and an online tool that visualises the environmental accounting progress in the partnership countries.

Water component

The water component of the project primarily aimed to support the countries to gradually develop and extend their national portal of water information systems in line with the SEIS principles.

The state of water report is currently being finalised and will soon be available at this link in English and Russian.

Regionally comparable water indicators have been developed in line with the EEA methodology to underpin knowledge-based policy making.

Cooperation with the six Eastern Partnership countries over the past four years has been extremely intense and has covered a range of thematic areas where we have a number of success stories to share.
